Hey AOL Members...

HEY ALL YOU AOL MEMBERS...

I've got a huge question for ya.

OK, Earlier tonight, Jake and I installed AOL 9.0 (i think, the newest version) onto his computer because his dad gets a special deal with AOL because he works for GM.
Anyways, we installed it and tried to connect and instead of getting 'local' dialing numbers, all we got were numbers that were from towns 15-45 miles away, instead of getting one from his local area.
We were sucessful at connecting just once...But we lost the connecting suddenly and were unable to connect again using any of the available numbers. Its kept showing up as 'busy'.
My question is: Shouldn't he have his own local dial up number? You know, a dail up number from the Cass City area instead of Bay City or Saginaw or Owasso or where ever!! I mean, what kinda crap is that? Paying for a service you can't even access...buncha bull.

If anyone has any answers, they would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks,
ANIME

This was the closest thing I could find on AOL's help page:

"If you wish to connect using different methods or from different places, you can create additional locations to do so.

Part 1: Adding a dial-up location

1. On the Sign On screen, click Connect Options.
2. In the Connect Options window, click Add Location.
3. In the America Online Setup window, make sure the Dial-Up button is selected and click Next.
4. In the Select Dialing Options window, enter a name for the new location in the Dial-Up Location Name field.
5. Verify or change the country name in the Country field.
6. Enter the area code and first three digits of the number you will be calling from in the fields provided.
7. Indicate whether you are currently at this number by selecting either Yes or No.
8. Specify whether you need to dial a number to reach an outside line by selecting either Yes or No.
9. Indicate whether you have call waiting by selecting either Yes or No.
10. Click Next to continue.
11. In the Select Access Phone Numbers window, click the check boxes next to at least two access phone numbers to select them.
12. If you need to dial 1 for any numbers, click the Dial 1 check boxes for them.
13. When done, click Next.
14. In the Confirmation window, confirm your selections and click Confirm and Close.

Part 2: Adding a broadband location

1. On the Sign On screen, click Connect Options.
2. In the Connect Options window, click Check for High-Speed Connection.

Part 3: Adding a surcharged 800 number location

1. On the Sign On screen, click Connect Options.
2. If you do not have any existing locations, click the Create Dial-Up Location link in the Connect Options dialog box. If you have existing locations, click Add Location in the Connect Options window.
3. In the America Online Setup window, click the Dial 800 Number button.
4. Click Next.
5. In the Select Dialing Options window, enter a name for the location in the Dial-Up Location Name field.
6. Specify whether you need to dial a number to reach an outside line by clicking Yes or No.
7. Indicate whether you have call waiting by clicking Yes or No.
8. Click Next.
9. In the Confirmation window, review your dialing options and surcharge information. If you need to make changes, click Back.
10. When done, click Confirm and Close.

Notes

* AOL strongly recommends that you contact your local phone company to confirm that any access phone number(s) you have chosen for dial-up access to AOL will not cause toll or long-distance charges to appear on your phone bill...
* Try changing the dialing order if you sometimes get a busy signal when trying to connect to AOL. Many members select the first available access phone number in their area code to connect to the AOL service; selecting a less popular number (the second or third choice in the list) may get you connected quicker.
* Your America Online® account will be charged an extra fee for the entire time you are connected using a surcharged 800 number, even during a free trial period. The fee amount is subject to change. For fee information, go to AOL® Keyword: Access, or contact Member Services at 1-888-265-8007.

If you need additional assistance, you can get free online help from a Member Services Representative by going to our Live Help. Free support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and representatives are available to assist you now!"

Knowing AOL, fixing it will most likely require either paying obscene amounts of money for either "Technical support" (that purposely takes three times as long as necessary) or an expensive lawsuit, in which you sue AOL for product fraud.

Of course, the real problem here is that you're using AOL in the first place. It will consume your brain with its hoards of zombie pop-ups and vampiric hidden charges!

Eh, anyway, I hope this helps somehow - good luck.

oh gawd, thats all we got when we tried looking for help from AOL too.
Everytime we go to enter the area code and look for numbers to dial, we get the same long distance numbers. Nothing local. :S
And those long distance numbers do nothing but dial....then you wait....and wait...only to be told that the line is busy and then it tries again....and again.
Its a buncha bull crappa.
Thanks anyways though VoidPheonix :3

LOL yeah, the graphics for RO are not as spiffy as Guild Wars but it reminds me of the Old Skool graphics of the SNES and whatnot. I've always liked those graphics best :D
And i'm not big on pvp so :P lol But i will consider GW if i can ween myself from RO.
